Senior Café (and Senior Lunch)

Senior Lunch

For many years, Mountain View Lutheran Church has hosted a monthly Senior Lunch. For the past year, many of the seniors from Mountain View Community Center have had the opportunity to join them for lunch. However, the volunteers who have worked so hard to create this meal have decided they need to “re-retire.” Thanks so much to all of them, along with the staff of Mountain View Lutheran Church, for many great meals and for welcoming “the strangers” that have joined them from the Mountain View Community Center.

Now it is MVCC’s turn to play host! Each Tuesday and Thursday, seniors have the opportunity to gather, have conversation, get a bit of exercise, and share a bite to eat. We call the program “Senior Café.”

Our schedule is

  • 10:00 am – Coffee & a snack
  • 11:00 am – Senior Exercise/SAIL Class
  • 12 Noon – Tuesdays, lunch provided by MVCC; Thursdays, brown bag lunch
  • After Lunch – Play Games.

And on the 4th Thursday of each month, we will host a Senior Potluck at 12 noon, right after exercise class!

We know this is different from the Senior Lunch the church hosted, but we hope you will consider joining us, especially since many of your friends are already there!

And let’s have some FUN!

Mountain View Community Center seniors love to get together for fun! The Sumner Manestage Theater has announced their schedule for the year, and there are some great plays included: Meet Me in St. Louis, It’s a Wonderful Life, Oliver!, You Can’t Take It with You, and Once upon a Mattress.

We hope you will join us for all of these plays! And as always, we will go out for pie or a snack afterwards. If the tickets are outside of your budget, please talk to MVCC Program & Development Associate Beth Ann Johnson at 253-826-4329. MVCC has budgeted funding to ensure that all seniors have the chance to go to any play.

Work Your Mental Muscles!

Just as we work our physical muscles, it is important to work our mental muscle—also known as our brain.  That is why we have always offered the opportunity for everyone to stick around on Tuesdays for some game time.  Games, particularly learning new ones, are a great way to work your brain.  And studies now show that doing this can help delay the onset of dementia.

This fall, as part of Senior Café, we are going to play Mexican Train Dominoes, Scrabble, and other great games—all designed to be fun and make you work your brain! This is part of a local project called “The Game Campaign.” You may recognize some new faces joining us for exercise, lunch, or perhaps just the games! You don’t have to play every week, but we hope you will when you can.
