Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. • Children and youth in the Education Building. • Adults in the Life Together Hall.
NEW DISCIPLESHIP HOUR starts Sunday 9/13.
Discipleship Hour for all ages begins Sunday, September 13, at 9:30 a.m.
What is Discipleship Hour? Over the summer, Pastor Andrew and I spent time discerning how we name and approach our Sunday morning gatherings. We are moving from the traditional label of “Sunday School” or “Christian Education” to “Discipleship Hour” for three key reasons:
- Discipleship is intergenerational. Whether young, old, or anywhere in between,
we are all on a lifelong journey of following Jesus together. - Discipleship engages the whole person. While education focuses primarily on the
mind, discipleship nurtures our minds, hearts, relationships, actions, and spirits. - Discipleship aligns directly with our mission. As a community following Christ,
we LOVE with an open heart, GROW with a curious mind, and SHARE with a
generous spirit. Discipleship Hour gives us dedicated space to practice this
mission together each week.
For Adult Discipleship Hour, Ann Schumacher and I are curating weekly discussions and experiences to deepen our faith and community connection:
September 13 — Animate Discipleship: Church.
September 20 — Animate Discipleship: Cross.
September 27 — Animate Discipleship: Salvation.
October 4 — Guest Speaker: PLU Prof. Antonios Finitsis (Topic TBA).
October 11 — Elsa Lysne shares her Lutheran Summer Music experience.
Join us this fall as we launch this new chapter. God grows us best when we grow together.

We are excited to launch the Discipleship Hour, Sundays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. In so many ways, this is the beginning of a new chapter for Children, Youth, and Family (CYF Ministries) here at MVLC. The CYF Administrator and I have been working hard to craft a meaningful, intentional program for Christian discipleship that honors our diversity of experiences and methods of expression. We want to invite all our children, youth, and parents to attend the launch on September 13.
► Youth ages 5 to 18 will have developmentally appropriate, Christ-centered faith
exploration, play, and fellowship time led by vetted, trained, and trusted MVLC adult
volunteers, prepared for them in the Education Building west of the Life Together Hall.*
► Parents of youth participating in the Discipleship Hour are invited to the Library for coffee and conversation about:
- the curriculum for the Middle and High School Discipleship Hour;
- upcoming Youth events;
- plans for the Youth Council (mtviewlutheran.org/youth-council);
- and what kinds of programming designed to support parents they would like to see MVLC offer.
Excited to be in the work together, loving with an open heart, growing with a curious mind, and sharing with a generous spirit.
—Pastor Andrew
